"Nobody covers the world like Lonely Planet." New York Post

The Big Easy just got that little bit easier, with Lonely Planet’s New Orleans City Guide on your iPhone! ‘Crescent City’, ‘The Paris of the South’, ‘Saint City’: the euphemisms for N’awlins are as plentiful as its attractions, and the world’s leading guidebook publisher knows the lot. Our expert author, who won a Gold Medal from the Society of American Travel Writers at the Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Awards for this little baby, knows the city like the back of his hand, so you won’t be kept guessing.

Emerging (dare we say it, phoenix-like) from the wreckage of Hurricane Katrina, this most eccentric of American cities keeps one foot anchored in former glories, the other stretched optimistically towards the future. Whether your idea of a good time is to catch some zydeco in the Vieux Carré, lose all sense of modesty in the bacchanalian Mardi Gras, stuff yourself silly on muffulettas and gumbo or commune with the loas at a Voodoo temple, New Orleans won’t disappoint you, we guarantee!

Imagine taking the world's favourite guidebook and making the information interactive, personalised and fully searchable. Imagine dynamic maps that plot your exact location, guiding you through the quirky, the curious and the straight-up compulsory experiences recommended by our community of on-the-road authors and users. Now imagine that guidebook on your iPhone, with you wherever you travel. Well, imagine no more: the world's favourite guidebook has just arrived on the world's favourite phone.

Don't buy

There is really no searching on this app. Better to get a book with maps. Could not use in New Orleans. Save your money.

0/5 stars

Total crap on the iPad

Some apps work quite well when scaled up on the iPad. The Lonely Planet book/app does not. The text is blocky and navigation is crap. It's basically unusable. I love the hard-copy Lonely Planet guidebooks. Their content is just superb. The organization and presentation of their paper guidebooks is masterful -and above all they consistently improve my visit, be it to South America, India, Europe or cities in the US. Get the paper copy or just wing it. The electronic version is worthless.

3/5 stars

Could use an interface facelift

Some of the other Lonely Planet guides are version 2, and they're a little better adapted to iPhone.
